Contemporary Dance Forum
CONTEMPORARY DANCE FORUM is an artistic-educational event organised by Lublin Dance Theatre and Culture Centre in Lublin. These two institutions are at the same time organisers of an annual International Dance Theatres Festival in Lublin, which is one of the most important contemporary dance festivals in Poland and Eastern Europe. Since 1997 professional artists, critics and lecturers from the whole world come to Lublin to present their works, teach classes and give lectures about contemporary dance theatre. Among them there were: Paul Taylor DC 2, Thingsezisee'm Dance Theater and Dancing People Company from USA, Jonathan Burrows Company and Carol Brown from Great Britain, Paul Ibey from Canada, Kekäläinen&Company from Finland, Nanine Linning/Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Diane Elshout & Frank Händeler from the Netherlands, Beutler Choreographies from Germany, Chunky Move from Australia, Compagnie Stanislaw Wisniewski from France, Cie Linga from Switzerland.
After the great success of Festival the organisers decided to expand their activity and in 2003 worked out the idea of Contemporary Dance Forum which has a form of close and active meeting with one artist (group, dance theatre) from Poland or abroad. The idea is to give the audience an opportunity to see performances and ask questions to the invited artists about their work, inspirations and experiences. This all is to make the art of contemporary dance better known and understandable for as many spectators as possible. Also dance workshops organised in the frame of Forum bring an opportunity to improve the knowledge and skills of participating dancers, choreographers and dance teachers.
